Damon Hyland

I have had no formal training in Photography or Fine Art. I studied Hotel Management and completed a short business computing course then I realised I had no interest in becoming a Hotel Manager and set off on a roller coaster ride of travel, adventure and some crazy fun. After travelling for three and a half years I settled back in South Africa and moved to Cape Town in 2001. This is where I met and started working for fashion photographer, Jacques Weyers. He was great, I knew nothing about film or cameras and he patiently began helping me. That turned into a five-year session of working with Jacques and other photographers from all over the world. If they travelled to Cape Town, I was there to help. I had a better education than I could have dreamt of and, after my graduation from the film school of life, I set out on my own.

It's been a fantastic ride so far.
